Hand The Keys

Terms of Service

Last updated: September 2026. This is plain-language summary terms for the launch version — have counsel review before relying on them.

The service

Hand The Keys is an online marketplace where owners advertise small businesses for sale and prospective buyers contact them. We are not a broker, agent, appraiser, escrow agent or lender, and we are not a party to any transaction between users.

Listing fee

Listing a business costs a one-time $49. A paid listing stays live for 12 months or until the seller marks it sold, whichever is first. Renewal is a separate one-time $49 payment; nothing renews automatically. We charge no commission on any sale. Fees are non-refundable except where we remove a listing for a policy reason before it goes live.

Seller responsibilities

You must be authorized to sell the business and must provide accurate information, including financials. Listings that are misleading, fraudulent, duplicated, or not an actual business for sale may be removed without refund.

Buyer responsibilities and the NDA

Before receiving a seller's contact details, a buyer must accept a confidentiality agreement: to keep all non-public information about the business confidential, to use it only to evaluate a purchase, and not to contact the seller's employees, customers or suppliers without permission. Each acceptance is logged with a timestamp.

No warranties

Listings are provided by sellers and are not verified by us. Buyers should perform their own due diligence and consult an attorney and accountant. The valuation calculator gives rule-of-thumb estimates, not appraisals.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Hand The Keys's liability is limited to the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
